Dewitt "D.C." Treadway

D.C. Treadway & Company Furniture Store (circa 1908)
Back in 1902, when DeWitt “D.C.” Treadway opened his furniture store in Napa, it was fairly common for retailers to build their own furniture, rather than ordering it from a manufacturer. So, many furniture dealers were quite skilled at carpentry, and it became fairly common for them to build caskets, too.

At the time, Napa was a bustling community of around 3,500 people, and it wasn’t long before D.C.’s casket-building business expanded to the point where he decided to buy a hearse and open a funeral parlor. The funeral home has been in its present location since 1916.

Over the years, Napa has changed. So have funeral customs and traditions. But one tradition has been constant for nearly 100 years…The Treadway & Wigger commitment to service that has brought comfort to Napa families for generations.
